Class 4

Autumn Term 2019

Welcome to Class 4

Roots and Shoots Programme

We visited our plot at the Alnwick Garden to harvest all of the vegetables we had grown from seed. We had a bumper crop of potatoes, leeks , carrots , chard , beetroot , onions , cabbages, parsnips , parsley and rosemary. We used some of our vegetables and herbs to make some healthy vegetable soup. It was delicious .

This was our last visit to Alnwick Garden as part of the Roots and Shoots programme ,but we will carry on growing our own vegetables and herbs at school as part of our Business Enterprise  and Work Related Learning curriculum.

We were very proud when we were awarded a certificate for all of our hard work.

ASDAN - The Wider World

We have been studying the cuisine of France and Italy as part of our ASDAN project. We tasted some traditional French and Italian dishes to see which we liked the best . Unfortunately we couldn't find any snails or frogs' legs in our local supermarket - but we did enjoy other dishes such as french onion soup, pate, olives  and ravioli.

We also made our own pizzas and croque -monsieurs  which were delicious and went down a treat with everyone.

Lantern Making Workshop

We were invited to Alnwick Garden to participate in a lantern making workshop . We all worked together to make a large star shaped lantern which will be used in the Christmas lights parade in November. We stuck tissue paper strengthened with lots and lots of glue  to a wooden frame. It was very messy work , but great fun.
Toni from Alnwick Garden also visited us at school and helped us all to make small individual lanterns . We each chose a different motif to decorate our lanterns . They look fantastic and we can't wait to have our own lantern parade at school .

Independent Living Skills

Our Post-16 students visit St. Paul's School every Wednesday to use the food technology room to prepare a meal for their lunch. This term they have made a range of different pizzas and stews - YUM!
