We work with the Children’s Community Nursing Team based at Wansbeck General Hospital and adhere to both Trust and School Policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child.
Every child has an individual and confidential Child Health Record held at School which contains relevant medical and social information and requires your permission to share with other healthcare professionals concerned with your child. This permission should be given on our Community Nursing Care Plan form.
Part of our role is to assess children with medical problems within the School environment, control and administration of medications, carrying out routine observations such as height and weight and attending to complex medical needs and emergency diagnosis.
We also maintain links with specialist services such as dieticians, the continence service and paediatric consultants to whom we can refer your child at your request. We also carry out a range of health promotion activities and work with classroom staff to provide advice and resources.
It is important to keep our records up to date, so please inform us immediately if there are any changes to your child’s medication.
In order for any medication to be administered in school, written instructions must be given by parents or carers. This also applies to antibiotics or any other short term medication.
Medication will be safely transported for residential visits and outings.
